Sales Incentive Case Study
Situation:
One of the largest national food manufacturers wanted to increase their market share of certain snack food items
Solution:
A Select-A-Gift point reward system was established for grocery and convenience store owners and managers. Since many of the snack food items were impulse type items, the manufacturer wanted these items displayed near the checkout counter as well as the normal shelf area. The manufacturer awarded customized point certificates for each display placed near the checkout counter. The manufacturer’s sales representatives audited the display placements on subsequent visits. As an extra incentive, point certificates were awarded for each case of food merchandise ordered. From time to time, the manufacturer offered bonus points for certain case quantities and combination orders. The manufacturer’s sales representatives introduced the program, recruited participating store managers and distributed a customized catalog to show participants attainable gift merchandise awards.
Results:
The program was repeated for three years featuring different snack items promoted yearly to build and increase market share in a category. The promoted snack food penetration into the convenience store category of outlets was a phenomenal success with increased sales and market share growth.
Years of Service Awards Case Study
Situation:
With many offices in major cities throughout the United States, the human relations department of a very large law firm wanted the employees to know that their hard work and dedication to the firm was recognized and appreciated.
Solution:
Select-A-Gift designed a customized Online Gift website using the firm’s branding and artwork which allowed the firm to set up award accounts for each employee based on years of service. Each recipient was presented with a personalized Gift Booklet which referred them online to the custom website and presented his/or her login information. Once logged in, each recipient was able to browse the wide variety of items available to select from in the price category they were awarded. A gift selection could then be processed online and the gift was delivered to the recipient’s home or office as requested.
Results:
Employees enthusiastically favored this new reward system. Their traditional system awarded everyone the same gift at the 5 year, 10 year, etc. level. However, the Select-A-Gift Program made employee recognition more personal. Employees were allowed to select a gift that was meaningful to them and that they would appreciate for a long time to come. The range of gifts available to select from caused excitement to surround each employee’s anniversary and recipients eagerly discussed the gift selections with their co-workers.
Safety Awards Case Study
Situation:
A small manufacturing plant had an ongoing safety attitude and performance problem. Management’s attention to the problem peaked when worker’s compensation insurance premiums skyrocketed by over $60,000 in one year alone.
Solution:
Management set a first year goal of reducing accidents by 50%. This meant if workers racked up less than 3 injuries per quarter, they would be rewarded with points enabling them to select merchandise from the awards catalog. Employees began to push one another to stop unsafe work habits such as failing to wear safety glasses, running and not wearing other safety apparel. After four years, the success was measured by the fact that $50,000 in points were distributed among employees for saving $200,000 on worker’s compensation insurance
The incentives were then extended to other cost savings opportunity areas. Employees received 20,000 points ($100) per quarter if the decrease in plant waste was 50% or more. Within two quarters the goal was achieved. The savings were over $100,000 for an investment of $10,000.
Results:
This plant currently has one of the best safety records in the business. The waste reduction goals were met, the bonuses have ended and waste has continued to fall.
